Alumni of GVO, Inc. (April, 1966 October, 2001)
At heart, GVO was a product consulting firm. Three men whose last names began with G, V, and O started it in 1966. It went out of business in October 2001. Over 35 years it employed hundreds of people: industrial designers, engineers, administrators, sales people, researchers, graphic designers, interaction designers, program managers, and others. And, in that time, GVO staff worked on thousands of projects for clients.
[From the IDSA profile of Noland Vogt] In 1966, Noland co-founded GVO (Gruye-Vogt-Opperman, Inc.) in Palo Alto, Calif., and was its president and chief executive officer. In this role, he played a key part in assuring that the GVO environment fostered the design excellence that stems from the fusion of art and engineering for which GVO was widely recognized. This vision led GVO to be the first industrial design firm to bring engineers, researchers, cultural anthropologists, human factors specialists, and model makers for rapid prototyping on staff to fully integrate the design process.
